Hong Kong Day Cafe

We went to Tsim Sha Sui to enjoy the night of Hong Kong and we are hungry. As not familiar with the area, we did not spent much time to find the food, we just walked in to Harbour City to find for our dinner. Not much choices for us and most were long queue. We choose a Hong kong Cafe.

Milk Tea($16) - The taste not much different as you drink outside or the road side, their standard pretty average.

Prawn Wanton Noodles($35) - After the milk tea, I did not expect too much on this, however, it turned good for me. It looked simple, refer to the picture  below, not even a vegetable, only wanton and noodles. The wanton is nice and noodles is Q, so as the soup, overall, I quite like it.

Seafood Baked Rice($55) - Looks normal and tasted normal. I did not taste this but I asked comments from my friends. Both of the ordered the same things and both said not worth to try as it is too simple and nothing special on this.

Cafe De Coral 大家樂

This is the popular fast food chain that you can see almost every where in Hong Kong. I can't recall which one did I went but I remember it is inside the MTR station. It is a small shop, hence, there is no way for you to seat, but they have some tables(limited too) for you to stand and eat there. Most people come here for the meal take away.

We wanted to have our quick high tea or should be late lunch, there is no other place as we still thinking to have dinner, so decided to have quick and light here.

My friend order this set, very Hong Kong style, macaroni with soup and a toasted bread with condensed milk. He said not too bad or just quite standard.

I ordered steam chang feng with char siew. I did not expected too much, however, it tasted quite nice, with the sauce and chili paste they have. The sauce came along with the food, the chili you need to request from them. Normally it is put there for self service.

Foo Lum Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant

We originally came here for its $1 chicken and steamboat where my friend's host told him that it is nice, but when we were there, we were told, there is no steamboat and $1 chicken promotion is no longer available.

We then decided to have the ala-carte order here as it is quite late and we were hungry already. The restaurant looks quite grand, so we did hoped that it will be good. After when I did a search, I found that this restaurant has its popularity. Overall I am quite satisfied with the food.

Chinese style German Pork Knuckles - The pork is nice and tender, they served in the hot plate and then poured the black pepper gravy onto it so you will see the effect of the hot sizzling pan. Nice!

竹笙罗汉上素,Mixed vegetables(HKD56) - This is average but I love vegetables so I love it too.

腰果鸡丁,Chicken with Cashew Nuts(HKD65) - This taste average and as you can see, there is less chicken.

The famous 北京片皮鸭半只, half portion of peking duck(HKD78) - I am not a duck lover so I cannot tell the different between this and the one I tasted other places, but it is crispy and good especially with the sauce and the skin.

潮楼 Chao Inn

I wanted to have dim sum in Hong Kong city but did not manage to find time for it. I reached airport quite early so wondering around to see if there have some good restaurant to dine in before I flew back. I walked pass 潮楼 Chao Inn and saw there are 30% discount for dim sum at tea time 2pm-4:45pm.

I am alone so cannot ordered too much, so just picked 3 most liked dim sum. The price of dim sum depends on the sizes, Small(A)-$20, Medium(B)$25,Large(C)-$28, Extra Large(D)-$31. It is quite worth it to try out with 30% discount. The service here not too bad. Overall, I was satisfied with my dining experience here.

I ordered a pot of tea to go with dim sum. Tea always the best for this.

Siew Mai(Prawn and pork dumplings) - This is the best. Can you see the prawn? I found Hong Kong Siew Mai always come with big juicy prawn. If you ask me what is the best food in Hong Kong, I will answer you, definitely Siew Mai. The filling was great. Yummy!!

Steam Pork Ribs - This is great too, not too dry and the taste was good. Much better than some other I tasted in Singapore Dim Sum restaurant.

Custard Bun - This was a bit disappointed as I did not manage to try it out so I am thinking to get here. It is nice to serve hot but not the one I like. I am too full and I even take away for the 2 for my supper when back to Singapore.

I like the chilli very much but not the oil. One of the bad things of these chilli is it comes with lot of oil, I guess people actually take the chilli oil rather than the chilli but I am the other way round.

Po Lin Monastery’s Vegetarian

Before I came here, I already heard my friends said you should try the vegetarian if you go Po Lin Monastery. The vegetarian is really good. We reached here almost noon time, so decided to have lunch first before climbing up to the big buddha.

They actually have the other set menu package but we feel too much for us so we went to this snack corner and the food looked attractive. So we ordered some to share.

The beebun and the vegetarian meat tasted ok, I like the curry one more. I love the bean curd especially for the dessert. The sago looked creme brulee not as good as I thought of but still not too bad. The steam kuih seems like is the traditional dessert that Hong Kong used to have as I saw a lot in Hng Kong drama, however, we did not like it much.

金鳳茶餐廳 Kam Fung Restaurant

My last day stayed in Hong Kong, I went to 金鳳茶餐廳 Kam Fung Restaurant for breakfast with my host.  She told me there is one cafe nearby the apartment, just down the street, I think 2 mins walk from apartment which serve nice breakfast. When she told me the name of the cafe, I found that it was one of the restaurant that I wanted to go.

The cafe is famous for its 菠蘿油 Po Lo Bun, 無冰凍奶茶 Iced Milk Tea without Ice Cube  &  雞批 chicken Pie.

I got the famous milk tea and the bun but I forgot about the chicken pie and got a egg tart as I wanted to compare the egg tart from Hong Kong and Macau. The milk tea($16) which is more expensive than my 2 bun and egg tart($4.50 each). I always wonder why the drink sometime costs more than the food.

The milk tea is quite nice and the bun was great but you need to request them to serve while hot. The taste will change if the bun is cold as mine was a bit cold. So get the hot from oven one. You can choose to add the butter or other filling to the bun with extra charges, if not wrong $1-2. Egg tart tasted average, I still prefer Portuguese egg tarts.

They also served set meal for breakfast, which include the omelet. This is quite standard which you can prepare at home easily. Below is the egg with sausages.

金輝點心茶餐廳 Kam Fai Dim Sum Restaurant

I had breakfast at below dim sum place on the cold morning. Hong Kong basically I feel the food price is quite high. However, below dim sum place served quite affordable dim sum. I was alone hence, did not manage to order more stuff. So i just got myself the signature siew mai and the char siew bao. The siew mai was really nice, you can really eat the fresh prawn in it, unless what we had normally in Singapore, it is prawn   paste if we eat at normal kopitiam. The char siew bao was average. Personally I feel Tiong Bahru Char Siew Boa better than this.

The restaurant here normally have the rule like if you do not order any drink, they will charge you for tea by default, so even you do not want to drink, they will still charge you. I pay HKD28 for my breakfast including HKD3 for the tea which is very cheap, consider one of the cheapest breakfast I had. The tea they give me whole pot and you can request to add on for hot water.

I did not manage to finish my bau so I take away instead as my snack at Ocean Park.
