Little Vietnam Restaurant & Cafe

My girl friend recommended the restaurant.  She said this is really nice and she like it. The restaurant looks small but cosy especially the outdoor seat. The problem with the outdoor seat will be it might rain and people can smoke outside. However if it is windy, that is the best seating area.

Little Vietnam restaurant has an extensive menu at affordable prices. There is No GST or service charge. It is also recommended as one of the 5 best Vietnam Restaurant in Singapore. You can view the details HERE.

We ordered some side dishes to share. Fried spring roll, fried chicken and vietnamese famous rice roll. I still like the rice roll the most. My friend ordered the salad and I feel that is nice too.

As usual I got the pho Tai Bo Vien(Sliced Beef and Beef Balls), I always like to try out the pho at any vietnamese restaurant that I went. Reason being I like the clear soup base with full taste. The version here is good.

Homemade Cocunut Jelly - I just fall in love with this, refreshing by using the fresh coconut juice and flesh. Really good.

Loving Hut

I was looking on some vegetarian food online and happen to come across this international vegan restaurant chain. They have one branch at Suntec City, the one at Geylang area just open for few months when I visited(Feb 2014).

I checked out the reviews and most are positive. My lunchmate is vegetarian so that is ideal for us. I got myself Vegan Lasagne ($13.90+) and my friend had Vegetarian Pho ($9.90+). For drink, I had Cappuccino($5.9+) and she has rose drink. I understand from the staff that the coffee bean and soy milk that they use are organic. I did heard a friend commented that organic coffee is totally bad but I feel my cappuccino is fine.

My lasagne, the portion is alright for me but I feel for slightly big eater, this seems too little. My friend's pho looked like Chinese Yong Taofu but she said the taste is alright.  They have quite a lot of selections on the menu. This is not the best vegan restaurant buy worth to try out.

So Pho

A newly opened Vietnamese restaurant(owned by the same folks behind Bali Thai) which served a good pho. I love the pho and its soup base. This is more alike that what I had tasted in Hanoi. The soup is clear and sweet but not very strong herb taste. My colleague took the dried vegetarian vermicelli.  She said that is great but would be better if they offer vegetarian pho as she really like it.

Pho Bo - Bo Vien($8.80) - Sliced Beef and beef ball noodles served in the delicious soup. I like the version here. If you cannot take beef, you can order the chicken pho - Pho Ga.

Another visit back to this Vietnamese restaurant, my vegetarian colleague like the eatery place so she suggested a return to try other stuff. We got the mix spring roll platter which includes the thai fish cake, rice spring roll and fried spring roll. I tasted 2 of them, quite good.

Cha Ca La Vong($10.9++) - I had this dish in Hanoi, the original shop few years back and I remembered it is quite nice, the only thing I felt it is too oily so if you want to have good stuff, forget about the fat that you saw. The combination of ingredients - turmeric, dill, shrimp paste and fish sauce, served with silky noodles and a thicket of other fresh herbs to season the chunks of fish, that is what I had tried in Hanoi. So Pho's version slightly different, it is served in a hot plate with the grilled fish topped on the fresh onion, there is one sweet and sour sauce that goes together with the fish and noodles, else it will be too dry to eat the both alone. Taste wise slightly different but still consider quite nice.

Vietnamese Drip Coffee($4.9++) - for sure you will need to try this when you are in Vietname, I did not try in So Pho but my Indian colleague quite like it.

Pho Hien Vuong

I found some old photos regards this Vietnamese restaurant and decided to blog it to remind myself food that I had overseas, even though it is some time ago. I met up a secondary friend at Brisbane and she brought us to this place where she felt it has good Vietnamese cuisines. I am not too sure if the restaurant still there but it is just besides Malaya Corner, another eating place for Malaysia if they miss the home cuisines. I only recall that this is Sunnybank Vietnamese restaurant.

When I heard about Vietnamese cuisines, 1st thing come to my mind is Pho, the clear beef noodles soup. What did we had? Pho for sure. The pho here tasted quite good, I didn't have any bad memory but I forgot about the taste of the drink. Overall, I had good dinner and nice catch up with the long time no see's friend.

Pho Hoa

A dinner date decided before 5 mins I knocked off from work, to ease both of us, I choose Holland Village and think we just find anything there. At first, we were thinking of having steamboat but looked at the queue, we decided to go for alternative. My friend then suggested, let's go for Vietnamese food. The only restaurant with Vietnamese cuisines at Holland Village, I only know Pho Hoa.

Looked at the restaurant name, you know what you want to get here. You will not miss it!

Goi Cuon(Single $4.25++, Pair $7.95++) - Rolled in Vietnamese rice roll with shrimps, chicken, salad and Vietnamese Vermicelli. Tasted good but I feel expensive with a spring roll for $4.25++.

I got P3 - Steak, Brisket pho($12.95++). I got the regular pho and like the broth, tasted good for me. The steak and brisket just nice and soft. You should try the chili, it is nice too. I forgot to take the picture of the raw vegetables that used to go with the pho. Mostly is bean sprout and another unknow vegetables. Some restaurant will provide mint too but usually I won't add to my pho. There is lime which goes well with pho.

Va Va Voom Cafe

I was recommended by my Vietnamese colleague that this is probably the unauthentic Vietnamese cuisines in Singapore.
Summer Fresh Roll with prawn - this s nice but the skin a bit hard, will be better if it is softer

Left: Something with coconut ice-cream, lemon grass drink
Fried chicken wings - nothing special about this, standard one

Sliced beef and beef balls pho - I got the combo where I had the meatball, beef etc. This confirm not the best I had as the one I tried in Hanoi is really the best but might be one of the better one in Singapore as I haven really tried a lot of Vietnamese restauarnt too. This version tasted quite good, sliced beef is tender, meatball like the one we get from hyepermarket, most importantly is the broth. The broth consider quite nice for me. the noodles it use not the typically pho noodles that I tried, it is more like the singapore thin kway teow style.

Cheung Sing BBQ House

My friend brought me here when I visited his house at Sydney and this restaurant just 2 mins walk from his apartment. He told me that it is one of the best Asian restaurant that he had in Sydney. It looks like it is typical Hong Kong Cafe but they do sell Vietnamese cuisines, so it is kind of Vietnamese Hong Kong cuisines. The food here generally are good and worth for visiting.

My friend ordered fried noodles for himself. Not sure what style is it but it tasted good too.

Vietnamese Pork chops with Fried Rice - highly recommended by my friend. It is indeed generous portion and it tastes really good. I will come back again for this. It comes with a fried egg. The pork chop was tender and the fried rice is fragrant. Not too sure what seasoning they use but I just like the fried rice. The portion is big and I cannot finish it, kind of wasted. So sad.
