Little Prince Creamery Cafe

Another cafe up at Toa Payoh area, I can see more are on the way. This is the latest I found which is near the block that I am staying. Probably less than 10mins walk. Good news for me especially I like the waffles texture. Do keep up for the standard.

The decoration is great, although I am not the fan for Little Prince, but I still like the cafe's design. The owner for this creamery cafe is the same as the one who owned The Little Prince Cafe 小王子咖啡座. I never been there but I saw some online pictures, they have the same design.

The main stuff that is selling here is waffles and ice cream.  You may see on the blackboard for the menu and the price of waffles and ice cream.  I did twice visiting in 3 days with different group of friends.

First try I got their Noir with Waffle($7.4). Noir is premium ice cream so it costed more. I am not a chocolate lover but I like the bitterness of this ice cream and most importantly it is not sweet.  The lady boss said this is a very very dark chocolate version. The waffles is crispy outside and soft inside.  This is the way of waffle I like.

2nd visit I tried the Ham and Cheese Waffles($7.9) and Thai Milk Tea with waffle. Both tasted quite good especially the savoury waffle. One disappointed stuff is they used sliced cheese instead of adding the cheese to the waffles batter. I feel that might taste better. I myself never try that but after seeing this version, I am going to try out myself.

Nevertheless,  this is so far a good place to hang out and I can see myself returning if I have any craving.  The good to have a good cafe nearby.

Stateland Cafe

I bought the voucher from Groupon for $15 with $30 voucher only applicable to sweet tooth and beverage. 1st time when I went there, the queue was too long so I gave up the wait. I went again on a Thursday night with friend and it seems the cafe has extended to next door so now has more seats.

Overall, I wasn't sure on the other savoury item but I will definitely won't back for the main course. Desserts may be is the only that will bring me back, however the waffle is much expensive than others. Glad that I had voucher with me.

Cafe definitely come with coffee so we got Cuppiccino ($4.9) and Toffee Nut Latte ($5.7). These are failed to me. I had wrong type of coffee and I have to remind myself never ever get any coffee with any syrup. Toffee nut smells good but too sweet that I couldn't taste the coffee. Cuppiccino was not great too, the milk taste cover the coffee so it tasted a bit like milk with a bit of coffee smell. It is probably me who feel that as I prefer stronger version.

I got the famous Red Velvet Waffle ($14.9) with add on of additional scoop of chocolate ice cream ($2) and blueberry Compote ($2). The serving was wrong as we did not got our add on ice cream and requested for the change.  Waffle tasted quite good, it was in the mid range if we compared with else place. The blueberry compote tasted great to me. I love that.

We also wanted something savoury so we ordered a Carbonara ($10.9). When the food was served and I tasted it. I had to admit that I never had this bad carbonara before. I wasn't sure is it me and my friend too sensitive with the pork smell. The carbonara with bacon is really smelly to us until we asked the cafe lady that we wanted to have a change as we totally cannot force ourselves to finish it. She took back to the kitchen then came back to us and saying was it fine if they changed to mushroom instead of bacon. We don't mind that as we thought the bacon was the problem. We will served again with the mushroom version,  looks good. We ate and confirm no smell. The pasta wasn't that great. It was ate-able. I had much better carbonara else where.

The very "weird" taste version - totally failed!!
This is the mushroom version

Buttermilk Whole Wheat Waffles

Original Buttermilk Waffles

Chocolate Chips Buttermilk Waffles

  •  2 tsp Vegetable Oil
  •  2 Egg Whites, stiffly beaten
  • 2 Egg Yolks, well beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 3/4 cups Whole Wheat Pastry Flour(I used Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Wheat Pastry Flour)
  • Golden maple syrup(I used Lyle Golden Syrup Maple Flavour)
  • Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Strawberry, banana, almond granola(Optional as toppings)

Directions:
  1. Sift together the last 4 ingredients (whole wheat pastry flour through salt).
  2. Combine and beat the egg yolks, buttermilk and vegetable oil. Add this to the flour mixture, beat well. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  3. Divided batter into 2 portions, one as original, another add dark chocolate chips. I made it to 2 flavours.
  4. Bake in preheated waffle iron until golden. Reheat waffle iron before putting another waffle in each time. Serve with butter and honey or pure maple syrup.

**The recipe made 8 waffles.

Shrove Tuesday

It is good to see Toa Payoh area has more and more cafe style eatery to let consumer have more choice. Sharove Tuesday is the latest one I knew at this area. The cafe name itself known as "Pancake Day", if you type "Shrove Tuesday", you can find its WIKI Page. Me and my friend decided to go for desserts after the dinner.

We got a waffle ($5), that seems to be the most interesting item, with a scoop of premium ice cream ($2.5+$0.8 top up for premium). Here came our waffles. It depends on what is your favourite waffle texture and taste. I personally feel it is better than some of the top waffle that is published on some blog. The version here morw cripsy and not that solid which I like its cripsiness. My friend prefer the more fluffy and heavy flour kind, so she feel the one here was just too thin. Ice cream we choose berry and it is quite nice.

On average,  if you have dessert craving,  you may visit this small cafe. It sells other pastries like tiramisu, apple crumble cake, brownie etc. To go with these, you can go with coffee, tea or soft drinks.

Wimbly Lu

This is a chocolate place. If you are chocolate lover, you might like this place. I was here because there is an article rating the top 5 waffles in Singapore.  Wimbly Lu is one of them. The place is famous for desserts even on weekday. The crowd comes from the diners at other restaurant, just like us we had our dinner at the Italian restaurant next door.

We started queueing at 8:30pm, the queue time was around 20mins. Since we were here for waffle, of course we took that, I did saw most tables had that too. We also got a chocolate pie as it looked good. You can view the complete menu HERE. The price on the menu include GST but subjected to service charges.

The cafe's interior is nice. You can see some cute vintage deco when you get into the cafe, environment is warm and great.

Waffle w Ice Cream($8.5+) - you can choose any ice cream flavour from the Homemade ice cream list. We took the advise to go with the salted caramel. The waffle was fine but the ice cream was totally not fine for me. It was salty for me and taste a bit weird.

Nutella Chocolate Pie($6+) - the pie filling was good but not the pie puff. It won't be on my list.

Latte E Miele

This place is not very accessible but thanks to the Free Shuttle Bus Service from Grandstand,  we were able to travel to the place easily. Sorry for the poor photo quality.

I bought the voucher online to try out this gelato place. All the desserts below cost me $9.50(Original $20.10 without voucher) The price is slightly cheaper if compare to some ice cream shop. The gelato ice creams are quite nice, waffle and brownie is average. They have some special flavour like lavendar and sakura which we don't really like it, taste new but feeling won't want to have more. Coffee consider average too. I was having the Combo 1($9.80) which include a waffle with Gelato and a hot beverage(only applicable to $4 and below).

Menu | In Store Promotion

Brownie($5.30) is best to go with the ice-cream. Then why I don't have ice-cream but my waffle was full of it? This is because of the price difference, a scoop top up on waffles only cost me $2.5 but if I choose to have Brownie with Gelato($9), I will need to top up $3.7. My friend remind me that and we decided to use the best money to enjoy our desserts.

Geláre Ang Mo Kio Hub

I had to meet a friend last minute at Ang Mo Kio and I suddenly remembered the 50% waffle promotion on Tuesday. I used to feel that this is the best waffles that I tried but I found it depends on the time you went. It is not always that great but still consider one of the good waffles in Singapore.

Tuesday always crowded due to the promotion, hence, queue is expected. This area use to be Ah Mei cafe which had been moved, is quite a quiet place for some small gathering as the place is not big, if you have a big group, it is quite hard to get the seat.

Although Geláre famous for its waffle and ice-cream, it does have some simple set menu for your dinner selection. My friend had the sandwiches set A which come with a choice of coffee, soup and sandwiches. The sandwiches tasted quite nice, the soup a lot to improve and I did not taste the coffee but my friend said it is ok.

Here come my chocolate chip waffles, this is nice and crispy and we ordered another normal waffles with ice-cream. We found that the chocolate chip waffle tasted better as it is crispier.
