Nan Yick Bakery 南益饼家

I had been to Kluang but never visit any of the bakery as it seems not in my radar. Mooncake festival is coming soon and my friend shared with me the 2 famous mooncake pastries from Kluang. I then recalled I have a colleague from there and I suddenly have the craving(I am totally not a mooncake person). I asked my colleague to get for me. Any of the 2 famous so long as no queue.

Mooncake to me equal sweet so I seldom want to have it. I do like the teochew (or-ni aka yam) and shanghai version(only the skin, filling most is sweet) but not too much. My colleague got me Nan Yi which is not the 2 famous and I never heard of. I did a search online and found that it is also a famous and traditional bakery in Kluang. My colleague is local so I think what he recommended should be good.

The shape of this mooncake is different from traditional round or square. It like the long oval or local people call it Tikus (which means mouse). There are 3 flavours in the box - traditional lotus paste, pandan lotus paste and red bean paste. It costed me RM32 for single yolk version. I personally like the overall texture of pandan lotus paste. One of my housemate said compare to the other famous one she prefer that because of the rich milky taste in the skin but that filling is sweet. Good thing about Nan Yi is it is not that sweet. I do not try others so not sure how is the actual taste but I guess it does based on personal preference.

If you want to try this special mooncake and happen to pass by Kluang, do not miss it.

Star Coffee House & Restaurant

The restaurant was recommended by a friend from Kluang and understand from him that reservation is highly recommended.  I took his advise and made the reservation.  Glad that I did so as I saw it was quite crowded.  Total bill RM98, the price is reasonable but we did not manage to try some of the dishes as it was out of stock.

One thing need to improve is the service of some staff.  The staff that served us was quite frustrating with us as we had too many questions on the dishes. Their famous crispy duck and chicken is recommended to make advanced order so that you will not be disappointed if they told you:"sorry, we dun have anymore."

Overall the meal tasted average. As for crispy duck, it tasted fine but I did try better else where. The way they eat with bun is quite special.  Normally braised pork we eat in this way.

I asked the staff why the restaurant named music in chinese, she told me there used to have singer to sing in the restaurant but it doesn't happen now. They only play some music for the customer via the audio.

This supposed to be stir fried roasted pork, the staff asked us if we want to add garlic vegetables and we felt good too add the vegetables. However, when it was served, we felt hardly can find the roasted pork. It was all covered by the vegetables.

Tong Xin Yuan 同心圆美食中心

We supposed want to go to the opposite coffee house but we arrived quite late and seems not much choices. So we decided to have it opposite. I think most of the stall should be only open for dinner time. However, we still able to find some stall to fill the stomach.  

Me and my friend shared the yong taofu, tasted quite nice. It seems they use traditional recipe as saw on the wall. It tasted quite nice, the whole bowl costed us RM10, but sharing among 2 of us, I feel the price is reasonable.

My friends had the curry mee, lor mee, fried bee hun and roasted pork, chicken rice. Nothing very fantastic,  all tasted average.

Ramly Burger Kluang

Ramly burger, a very famous burger which you can see almost everywhere in Malaysia. This is so far still the cheapest and great burger made locally.

We were craving for the burger,  so we drove around Kluang after the dinner to look for it. We found the 1st one but we wanted to have burger special (with egg) and the stall run out of the egg. Luckily we managed to find another stall at other street. We got 2 Beef Special (RM2.80) and one Chicken Special (RM3) which is even cheaper than the 1st we went. That stall selling at RM3.50.

Ramly burger is so famous because of the way it cook. The patties and bun was pan fried on a very big pan. This is the 1st time I saw the boss use curry powder,  normally they use pepper. Overall, the taste still very nice. I love it!!

UK Farm Restaurant

Opened in June 2014, UK Farm is nn aspiring leisure farm located in Kluang, Johore, Malaysia. It has the reputation of being Malaysia’s largest goat and sheep farm, with 130 acres of grazing land for 4000 sheep. They provided day tour or stay in package at their UK Argo Resort. We went there during the weekend and thanks for the special arrangement(subjected to room availability), we managed to experience the farm experience without going for the package - 1 night stay including breakfast. For standard room, it is charged at RM230, with RM50 extra bed(with breakfast)

The breakfast menu is highly depends on the crowd, if the farm has more guests, the breakfast menu will have more variety. during the week we visited, there isn't much visitor so we only have below items for our breakfast. We were late for our breakfast, hence all stuff was gone, so they prepared for us again. It suppose to be buffet style but as the restaurant practice of no waste so they cooked just enough for you, if you want to have more, just let them know. Sometime late doesn't means bad, at least we have our breakfast served hot. This include free flow of goat milk milo for the beverage.

Overall, the breakfast tasted quite good, although it is just very simple dishes.

Milky Cake House

We bought 2 pieces of layer cake from this bakery for a friend's birthday.  We did not get the whole cake as we worried we cannot finish it and it will be wasted. This cake house happen to just located opposite the restaurant that we planned to have dinner, so very convenient for us to get the cake.

We got pandan and yam layered cake. 2 cakes for RM7+ which I feel quite good. Both cake tasted good as I feel not that oil  and they had jelly in between.
