Buttermilk Whole Wheat Waffles

Original Buttermilk Waffles

Chocolate Chips Buttermilk Waffles

Ingredients:
  •  2 tsp Vegetable Oil
  •  2 Egg Whites, stiffly beaten
  • 2 Egg Yolks, well beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 3/4 cups Whole Wheat Pastry Flour(I used Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Wheat Pastry Flour)
  • Golden maple syrup(I used Lyle Golden Syrup Maple Flavour)
  • Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Strawberry, banana, almond granola(Optional as toppings)

Directions:
  1. Sift together the last 4 ingredients (whole wheat pastry flour through salt).
  2. Combine and beat the egg yolks, buttermilk and vegetable oil. Add this to the flour mixture, beat well. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  3. Divided batter into 2 portions, one as original, another add dark chocolate chips. I made it to 2 flavours.
  4. Bake in preheated waffle iron until golden. Reheat waffle iron before putting another waffle in each time. Serve with butter and honey or pure maple syrup.

**The recipe made 8 waffles.
