Cendol Place

Walked along Jonker street under a extreme hot sun and we decided to have some cool stuff. Melaka cendol is very famous. We went in to below shop, it seems quite famous. Cendol tastes good but I prefer the not so thick Gula Melaka version.

The normal cendol's basic ingredients are coconut milk, a worm-like jelly made from rice flour with green food coloring (usually derived from the pandan leaf), shaved ice and palm sugar(Gula Melaka). Other ingredients such as red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, creamed corn, might also be included depends on what type of cendol you are ordering. What special of cendol in Melaka? They have vert thick and sticky palm sugar.

Description found on internet: Gula melaka is made by first extracting the sap from the flower bud of a coconut tree. Several slits are cut into the bud and a pot is tied underneath the bud to collect the sap. Then, the sap is boiled until it thickens after which, in the traditional way, it is poured into bamboo tubes between 3-5 inches in length, and left to solidify to form cylindrical cake blocks.
