AOne Claypot House

A newly opened porridge eating place which replaced original WanChai Hong Kong Cafe here. I always feel their porridge quite nice as you can find it in many food court or food center. This restaurant will have more choices with vegetables, claypot dishes etc.

Claypot Hongkong Style Porridge艇仔粥($7.90++) - I forgot about the picture. My friend ordered this, the price slightly higher than the one we have in the food court, however, the taste is the same. I am not sure if the portion is bigger as I suddenly cannot recall the size that we ate befoew.

Double Egg with Spinach三蛋苋菜($8.90++) - I am quite disappointed with this as when I see the picture, it looks nice. It suppose to use 3 types of egg which explained in the chinese menu but the English menue said double means only 2. When the dish served, I think I tried only 2 types. This is quite watery, kind of like the soup if compare with other restaurant. It tasted average too.

Blooming Fortune Tea花开富贵($5.90++) - Normal rose tea in nice tea pot.

Four Type of Vegetables四大天王($9.90++) - The 4 types of vegetables are brinjal, sweet pea, lady finger and long bean. It fried with some sambal and tasted quite nice, but too oily.

Another visit to this porridge place and this time we tried their porridge, claypot rice and some vegetables. The food generally is good but too salty for all.

Grub

I wanted to go to this restaurant few times but did not make it due to always having last minutes cancellation. Reason why I wanted to be here, of course not because I heard about the big name, but because it locates inside the park and I feel the dining environment should be good.

It is indeed quite good for me, if we talk about the environment but be prepared for the long wait. I was there on a Friday night and when I reached there around 8pm, I thought they weren't long queue. I was wrong, they used the queue system and when I register on their system, there were 17 queues ahead me. You will be notified through phone call when it is reaches your queue no. As there isn't any other choice of the restaurant nearby, me and my friend decided to wait and we try to tour around the park at night. We waited for almost an hour to be seated.

Crabble's Spced Orange Ginger($10++) - my friend said tasted like ginger soda and she seems like it.

Cappuccino($4.50++) - Average, nothing special about this coffee

Slow Roasted Pork Belly($15++) - it serves with mango sauce and mash potatoes, quite fresh for the mango sauce together with the pork belly. I thought the pork is roasted, however when it was served, it looked like deep fried. Taste quite good and you may have a try if you are pork lover.

Grilled Chicken Thigh Burger($12++) - attracted by this burger because it is spread with peanut butter aioli. Peanut butter mixed well with the grilled chicken and we both quite like it.

Here come our dessert - Churros($8.50++). It is kind of expensive for me to have this desserts but I saw it accumulated good review and therefore we went for this. It tasted delicious, a good choice for us, came with dark chocolate and tangy creme anglaise。

Kazokutei

Bishan is really crowded even on a weekday. We queued 15mins to get the seat and actually attracted by the food display outside the restaurant.

We want some cheese baked rice, so we got Hamburger Cheese Rice ($7.90++). Tasted quite good.
There is crab fair now and we got Crab Nabe Udon ($10.90++). At the cold weather with hot soup, that is so xinful. The udon with crab tasted good. The soup is great with some sweetness.

Watami Bishan

I was wondering should I create another post for more food or just combined with the previous post. I took the later option as I felt one page to view everything is better.

Wafu Pizza($11.3++) - thin crusted pizza topped with pork and teriyaki chicken, this was nice but it was a bit burn for the one that served to us. I would said this was over-cooked, supposedly the think crust should be very nice.

We got Special Set(for 2) $69++ from the special menu, although it says for 2 but if you are not a big eater, that is really huge portion, 3 of us sharing this special set and it is just nice for us. It includes Sashimi Moriawase 3 Pin, Watami Tonkutse Katsu Curry, tempura, fried mini shrimp etc. I got the half price Marusaki Imo Pudding with the set ordered, that is actually purple sweet potatoes pudding but it doesn't taste really good.

I had quite sometime never been to Watami, it is one of my favourite Japanese restaurant because of the varieties and also the food here generally quite good. When I reached there, I did not see a long queue so I thought I was lucky but I noticed that they actually have the queue system. There is 3 options for you to choose, mine is 2 person so it is Option A. A waiting no will be generated for you.

Kankoku Butechige($16.80++) - display not the same as the picture on menu but the taste is good. It comes with vegetables and meat and noodles, good to share for 2.

Watami Salad(half) $6.80++ - I love the salad because of the combination. The most important is the sesame sauce. Great that they have half portion so I can try out more stuff.

Ebi, Avocado, Cream Cheese Namayuba Maki($6.80++) - this is very similar to the salad except it is wrapped and contains cream cheese. It come with sesame sauce. For sure is good.

Matha Tiramisu($4.80++) - I like it, tasted good but a bit too soft. Everything with tiramisu and matcha I all love it.

Special dish offered during the Kyushu fair. The Tonkatsu($17.9++) tasted quite nice and my mum said there wasn't any pork smell.

Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh荣城肉骨茶

I knew about this Bak Kut Teh place from my landlord and they were kind to treat me lunch here, where they feel this is really good quality Bak Kut Teh. When we reached the place during lucnh time, you can see the crowd, you can notice most tables either had the Bak Kut Teh or the duck rice. It seems the duck rice is famous too.

How is the taste? It is consider one of the good Singapore style Bak Kut Teh I had. The soup is flavourable enough. We got the pork ribs and pork liver Bak Kut Teh with some vegetables added. We also got the braised vinegar pork leg. All tasted good, the only drawback for this place is it is not near any MRT, hence, if you do not have the transport. it might be hard to get there.

Prata Wala

I met a friend at Bishan Junction 8, Prata Wala has a new branch at Junction 8 basement, it replaces the original Ajiesen Ramen(moved to another side) after renovation. Both of us like prata so we decided to go in. It was quite full house during the dinner time, but luckily we met some friends and secured the seat.

Curry Chicken Prata Set($7.50) - taste average.

Murtabak Chicken($8.50) - 1st time I had murtabak in Singapore. It is different from the one I tried in Malaysia, this version is thinner but taste quite good. The skin is crispy and good to go with the curry chicken. Overall, I quite like it but a bit pricey if compare with others.

I was here for the prata but a bit greedy wanted to have prata and tandoori.  My vegetarian colleague thought of getting prata with some vegetables dishes. We then saw this tandoori platter for 2 and we were attracted by the choices.  It comes with 3 kinds of tandoori meat, butter chicken, spinach paneer, curry beans and vegetables, naan and chicken briyani.  Looks good and it is $25 for that.

We got that and I was surprised for the big portion of this. I am sure this is enough for 3 person. It comes with 10 naan and plenty of rice. My colleague is vegetarian so all the meaty stuff she couldn't take it. I immediately knew that I won't be able to finish it so I asked for take away bento box.  With so many naan we were sure rice will be too filling so I almost packed back all the rice and added half of my tandoori chicken and butter chicken to the bento. That is more than enough for my dinner. We ate the rest and felt so full after that. The food generally tasted quite good. I used to go to their branch at Tiong Bahru for prata choice.  Teh Tarik is nice too. A good place if you like to have Indian food.

Cake Over Heels

This is totally a new place for me, I did not know inside the Bishan area, there is this place. It is at MidView City I went there for Art Jam activity and after the painting, the artist there actually recommended us to try the Hokkaido cupcake since we were there already. She is right, we dun usually will pass by this place unless we need to source for furniture which is unlikely.

The cafe has a nice name, cake over the heels. I am thinking of the cakes decorated with the high heels shoes, nice right?? When I stepped in the cafe, I straight away feel the cafe is side business, it seems like specialize at the fondant making as you will see a lots of great design and it does sell fondant. They customised the cake for you, you may check with the lovely ladies at the counter and they offered classes too.

The cakes tasted quite good but too sweet for me, for both cake and pie that we chose.

Peach Short Cake($6.90) - vanilla sponge layered with light cream and peach on a crunchy puff pastry base. This is the new item for the day, you dun find it on their menu.

Lemon Lime Tart($5.10) -The perfect blend of sweet and tangy! The lemon and lime tart is topped off with a pleasing light meringue.
