8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro 八度空间

I passed by this bistro a few times but never walk in. I met up a friend stays nearby for dinner. I asked what is nice here and tried the 2 items that she recommend nice.

I got the braised pork rice and fried brinjal with floss. Both tasted quite good, it will be good if the braised pork added more gravy. I then had Hot Bubble Milk Tea, always had bubble milk tea in ice, the hot version is tasty too but slightly too sweet for me.

Bear Paw 熊手包

Why here? Because of its cute bear palm liked bao. I saw some magazines introduced this and my friend said Bugis have one and we went to try after work. I did an online search and found that they have branch at Orchard.  However when we were there, we were told there isn't any branch for them as we found that they only have 3 types of bun(I somehow saw 5 types online), then we realized we mistaken the 2 shops as 1. That is another bao shop that having the same concept. I am not sure which one start business 1st but that doesn't matter, the taste determined everything.

The order sequences are like below.
  1. Choose your drink: If you are getting the set, you have to choose the drink 1st as that determined how much is your meal. If you order for more than a set, you still have to follow the below sequence to order one by one, no skipping like choosing the drink for all 1st. If you order ala carte then this can be the last step.
  2. Choose your bun: there are choices of original,  milk and wholemeal
  3. Choose your filling: crispy chicken, spicy chicken and fish
  4. Choose your sauce: there are 8 different sauces for you too choose from. Choose the best that match with #3.

We were sharing the different choice we made.  The crispy chicken with honey mustard - taste alright;  the teriyaki fish that recommended - don't take this, taste strange;  and spicy chicken with chili sauce - I guess is not a very good combination.  Overall it tasted average.  The bun itself is soft and quite tasty by its own.
The set meal starting with $6.50 and you can always check with ala carte menu at the counter.

Din Tai Fung(Nex)

I dun really like to go Din Tai Fung as it is always long queue and waiting time. So I tried to avoid this restaurant, but that doesn't means that the food is bad, instead certain food are all quite good.

It is ranked as one of the world’s Top Ten Best Restaurants by The New York Times, Din Tai Fung has its roots dating back to Taiwan 40 years ago. With its famous signature xiao long baos (steamed pork dumplings) and heart-warming steamed chicken soup, this Taiwanese restaurant has been making well everywhere.

Hot & Sour Soup - My favourite soup, I just like the taste.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup
Steamed Vegetable Dumplings - Favorite dish for my vegetarian colleague.

Stir-fried Dou Miao with Garlic - This is a very simple dish, yet it is delicious

Steamed Pork Dumplings(Xiao Long Bao) - This is a must order stuff when we visit Dim Tai Fung. Although I am not a fan but my friends, they are!!
Fried Rice with Eggs - Din Tai Fung really has very nice fried rice, it is so fragrant and tasted really good. Don't look down on this, although it only fried with egg and some green onion but thumb up for this. If you dun know what to order, just go for this, it will never be wrong.

Eat At Taipei 吃在台北

We were discussed our short trip over a weekday dinner and location is city hall as it is center.  One of my friends cannot take any spicy food, so someone suggested the Eat At Taipei.

I seems been eaten here before but when I looked at the menu, I found it is different from previous.  Guess it is same Taiwan cuisines but different restaurant. The menu mostly popular Taiwan street food. I got the beef noodles and some of them had the set menu. The beef noodles taste ok, slightly spicy and salty. The restaurant did not serve water so I ordered the milk tea. Nothing special and in fact most of the famous milk tea chains have better than them. The bubbles here like not well cooked. The texture was a bit hard. Tried its oysters pancake from friend, taste bad for me, may be I dun like it tasted chewy like mochi, I remember the one I tasted in Taiwan was alright.

Ai Yu Ice - Tasted not bad, comment from my friend

Set Meal with chicken - tasted ok
Taiwanese Spring Roll

Beef Noodles that I had

Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs Set Meal - looks good, but my friend said 90% ribs and 10% meat, either they over-fried or it is just too little meat

Oyster Pancake - We all feel that this is not good!!

Mun Ting Xiang Tea Hut

This small eatery is not very visible if no one introduce it to me, reason being it located at TPY Entertainment Center and I hardly will go into the center. It serves Taiwan Cuisines. The decoration you can see 2 parts, one side it looks great, like a tea house feel, another side which is the counter is very messy. Overall the food here are average, so if you missed Taiwanese food, you may visit here.

Lime Juice or some lemon juice that I ordered. Taste average.

鲁肉饭 - Taiwan famous stewed minced pork with rice. This tasted average, I never try the actual Taiwan one. It will be better if it comes with stewed egg.

Crispy Fried  Chicken - average like what the rest have, nothing much special. It tasted like those packaged that you can buy in super market.

My friend's milk tea, quite special, overall still like the milk tea. I think the milk tea chains like KOI, COMEBUY, Gong Cha tasted almost the same or better than this.

Dim Tai Fung (RCT)

This is really famous. You will always see the long queue at any outlets. I personally do not really prefer Din Tai Fung, one of the reason being less choices another is the long queuing time.

This appertiser consider good. Vegetables with sesame. The Prawn wanton soup is good too, the prawn is fresh and soup base is nice.

Their famous egg fried rice which is very famous and my friend always get this for the dinner. The fried rice is fragrant and tasted good. The minced meat noodles is average.

Xia Long Bao, another famous stuff at this restaurant, almost everyone will order. I am not xiao long bao fan, so it is just nice for me. My friend said if compare with others, Din Tai Fung consider having standard, she is the master of Xiao Long Bao.
