Kok Sen Restaurant

I passed by this restaurant when I had my dinner at Keong Siak road. It was very crowded and I wondered why.

I then asked my friends to go there for dinner one weekday night, thinking that may be will have less crowd. We still waited for 15mins for the seat. I got the famous Big Prawn Noodles, that is my main dish I wanted.

Big Prawn Egg Hor Fun ($15) -smell really good, hor fun tasted wokhee but very super salty.  The taste actually not bad but the saltiness will scare me away. The way of cooking seems quite special and the chef used a lot of dried shrimps.

Big Prawn Bee Hun Soup ($15) - smell good and the soup tasted great.  Similar with the hor fun taste but less salty. However to me if I will have to finish whole bowl by myself,  I still felt it was salty.

Spinach with Egg and Prawn Paste Chicken - normal. Nothing special. I had better else where.

Conclusion: Not sure whether that is the usual standard but will not attract me purposely travel for another trip. If you have not try before, it will be a good try. I somehow felt very thirty after the dinner, wondering is it a lot of MSG added.

Kok Sen Restaurant

This restaurant seems quite famous but I don't know about it until one day I passed by the Keong Saik Road. I did google on net to check what is the specialities. Most of the diners I saw choose the Big Prawn Cripsy Noodles.

I dined in during supper, so I just got the Beef Horfun with egg ($6). It is more expensive than the normal zhi char but I think it is worth the price as the beef is added generously to the hor fun. I like the tasted of the wok hee which made the hor fun smell really fragrance.  Slightly salty for me but overall good experience.  Will come here to try other stuff next time.

Ember Restaurant

The restaurant is housed in Hotel 1929. It offer European cuisine with a tinge of Asian and Japanese influence. The man behind the kitchen and this dining concept is Chef Sebastian Ng. However, he will be leaving End April 2014, Chef Sufian Bin Zain will be take over his place. It is highly recommend that you make the reservation before heading down to avoid disappointment.

Overall I am quite satisfied with the dinner although it is not budget. The restaurant ambient is quite good at night, so suitable to have a good dinner over chat. The restaurant have set menu which is $42++. If you want to be more budgeted, try the lunch set.

This is complimentary bread, it is so nice when eat hot. This is bread with sun-dried tomato focaccia and some herbs. I especially like the bread to go with their butter.

There is set dinner available at $88++ where you can choose 2 appetisers, main course and desserts from the dessert menu. You can also choose to customise your own set menu at $100++.

We decided to go for ala-carte order. We got 2 appetisers, 2 main courses and 1 dessert for sharing. Below shows part of the ala-carte menu, include appetiser, main course and desserts.

Crabcake with mustard with cumin tuile and crab bisque($15++) - I personally feel the crabcake tasted average as I had even better else where. The version here a bit over-fried, so it became not that juicy.

Pan seared scallops wrapped with parma ham, orange and tarragon vinaigrette($19++) - I like the way the scallops were cooked and it could be I love ham so I feel this combination is really good for me.

Pan seared chilean seabass with mushroom and smoked bacon ragout, truffle-yuzu butter sauce($36++) - the most sastified dishes among all the items I had for the night. I really like this. The fish was just perfectly done. I like the sauce and mushroom that served together.

36 hours Duck confit($32++) - This is on the special menu, 36 hours prepartion. I am not a duck person, so I only feel that this is average. My friend said this is not really good as she compared with the other restaurant.

Apple tart tartin with vanilla bean ice cream($18++) - It took 40 minutes to prepare this apple tart. I like the texture but the vanilla ice-cream was too little. The portion can be only for 1 person, so for the price I paid, I feel this is quite expensive.

Roosevelt's Diner & Bar

Tucked away in a quiet Tanjong Pagar and Chinatown area, this cafe can easily located near the Outram Park MRT Exit H. It is an eclectic modern diner that offers hearty all-day dining in a casual environment. The menu has a huge slant towards artisanal and gourmet fares, with our food, coffee blends, wines, spirits, and cocktails.

Apple Forest Berries Crumble($8+) - recommended by the staff when I was not able to decide which to go. Great that I took the advise. I like it probably I love berries. You can taste the apple but the berries taste cover slight of the apple flavour. The crumble on top was crispy and the desserts served warm. It comes with a scoop of ice-cream. I will be back for this desserts if I am somewhere nearby.

Latte($4.80+) - Aroma smell and tasted quite good. Although latte is very milk based but I still prefer those with stronger coffee smell. This is just nice for me and so good to go with my dessert.
