Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant

This zhi char place located at one kopitiam along Jalan Besar, which is diagonally opposite Sim Lim Tower near Little India. I walked there via Bugis as that is more convenient to us and we know direction from Bugis better.

What is famous here is the fried bee hun. It is known as Crispy Vermicelli 烧焦米粉. The Bee hun here is slightly different from what you see normally.  It looks like a round burnt beehun but that is what is the special about it. When you flip it, most of the common ingredients you will see in fried bee hun can be found. Taste is special because of the burned like and crispy texture. The rest of the items that we ordered were average like what you can find normally at other zhi char place.

Stateland Cafe

I bought the voucher from Groupon for $15 with $30 voucher only applicable to sweet tooth and beverage. 1st time when I went there, the queue was too long so I gave up the wait. I went again on a Thursday night with friend and it seems the cafe has extended to next door so now has more seats.

Overall, I wasn't sure on the other savoury item but I will definitely won't back for the main course. Desserts may be is the only that will bring me back, however the waffle is much expensive than others. Glad that I had voucher with me.

Cafe definitely come with coffee so we got Cuppiccino ($4.9) and Toffee Nut Latte ($5.7). These are failed to me. I had wrong type of coffee and I have to remind myself never ever get any coffee with any syrup. Toffee nut smells good but too sweet that I couldn't taste the coffee. Cuppiccino was not great too, the milk taste cover the coffee so it tasted a bit like milk with a bit of coffee smell. It is probably me who feel that as I prefer stronger version.

I got the famous Red Velvet Waffle ($14.9) with add on of additional scoop of chocolate ice cream ($2) and blueberry Compote ($2). The serving was wrong as we did not got our add on ice cream and requested for the change.  Waffle tasted quite good, it was in the mid range if we compared with else place. The blueberry compote tasted great to me. I love that.

We also wanted something savoury so we ordered a Carbonara ($10.9). When the food was served and I tasted it. I had to admit that I never had this bad carbonara before. I wasn't sure is it me and my friend too sensitive with the pork smell. The carbonara with bacon is really smelly to us until we asked the cafe lady that we wanted to have a change as we totally cannot force ourselves to finish it. She took back to the kitchen then came back to us and saying was it fine if they changed to mushroom instead of bacon. We don't mind that as we thought the bacon was the problem. We will served again with the mushroom version,  looks good. We ate and confirm no smell. The pasta wasn't that great. It was ate-able. I had much better carbonara else where.

The very "weird" taste version - totally failed!!
This is the mushroom version

Wong Kok Char Chang Teng

I 1st tried this restaurant in JB and I did not know the one in Singapore is actually the group. Food here overall quite good, very depends on what you choose I would said. You can view the menu HERE. Although the pricing is in MYR but the menu selection is the same, I cannot recall the price in SG.

From left: Original Ice "Ying Yong" In HK style, Ice "Ying Yong" In HK style. What is the different? You can see from the picture below. I tasted both and I personally prefer the original version which the ice is placed surround the Ying Yong drink. Of course there is price different too. I tried the really original in Hong Kong and that tasted really fantastic. This version quite good although I cannot really recall the Hong Kong taste. The one with Ice inside the drink make the drink a bit diluted, hence, it tasted not that good compare with the original version.

Char Siew Cheese Baked Rice - I wanted to get hor fun initially but out of stock, so in the end I choose this. I like the cheese and the char siew tasted quite good.

French Toast - Looked good but not the one I like, reason being it somehow have a quite strong oil smell(means the oil have been recycle for dun know how many time). Apart from that I feel, it will be nicer if they added some maple syrup on top(that is my personal preference).

Fried Rice - I cannot remember which fried rice is this but it tasted really good. The smell is so nice and you will eating it non stop. However, the portion is too big for a lady, commented by my friend as she was super full after this.

Artistry

Cafes in Bugis are booming and you have quite a number of choice if you come to selection.  This time I went to Artistry, an art gallery and cafe combination at Kampong Glam heritage district. At Artistry, emerging artists – both local and international can have a platform for their debut exhibitions, performances, talks and events in an intimate and inviting space. The hybrid gallery and café serves up locally roasted Liberty Coffee and lovingly made artisan desserts, served on beautifully hand-crafted pottery. I suppose wanted to visit gallery after the lunch but was not feeling well.

Photography printing hanging on the wall, there is name tag to the arts which will tell you the title and the price. If you are interested, you may bring them home.

I had French Toast ($14) and my usual Cappuccino ($5). I love the French toast, what artistry served was exactly what I look for, soft and well made. This is peanut butter and jam French toast which tasted really good with ice cream and syrup. Coffee tasted good too and I had requested for my favourite latte arts. Another thing I love is the plate that they served the meal, it seems uneven(not the usual flat surface), but I like it, seems solid. After this I found that this seems is the hand-crafted pottery.

I always want to try the Windowsill's Pie but haven't have the chance. They have a cafe near Lavendar MRT. Artistry is selling that, I will be too full if I ordered another dessert so I took away. I took Vodka Lime ($7) which I a bit regret as initially when I ordered I did not listen carefully, I though it is just normal lime pie but great that the alcohol content is not high. I love lime pie, this is really good except I dun really like the vodka jelly in it.

Maison Ikkoku

Finally I had chance to try this when I was around Bugis one weekday. I recalled there are some nice cafe and MI is one of the cafe on my To-Visit list.

I wanted to try their signature Egg Benedict but in the end I choose Turkey Ham Eggs Benedict ($18+) due to I personally feel turkey should be healthier.  During the weekday lunch visit,  if you order any main course, you can get a complementary drink ($5 and below). That is a great offer for me as I would like to try the coffee too.
The egg Benedict was perfect and so far the best I had. From its appearance and taste, I love it so much especially the yolk if flowing and it combined with the bread at the bottom. Coffee tasted good too. Overall, I am very satisfied with my lunch although it is a bit pricey. Thanks to the cafe's lunch promotion.

Keisuke Four Season II

The 2nd time I visited this ramen shop. My 1st Visit Review HERE. I think I might be coming for another 2 round to try all seasons. I am getting summer this round. Based on the rating,  it seems best seller is king,  follow by autumn and summer.

Jan 2014 had promotion where you show the coupon, you will get a free ajitama or extra noodles. Of course I took ajitama, that save me $2 for adding it. Summer ($13.90++) is the only spicy flavour which come from the scoop of minced meat. I ordered light soup broth but with the extra spice, it actually turn out quite salty for me. Like other Keisuke branch you will get free bean sprouts and eggs. This is best for me as I had everything I like. I can forsee there will be more visit coming along.
