Uncle Leong is famous for its Shimmering Sand Crab Delight. It was first founded in a neighbourhood coffeeshop amidst the friendly Ang Mo Kio estate, I went to Toa Payoh branch and the location is like quite queit so I did wondering will it have any visibility. I was wrong, it was very crowded when I visited last weekend and luckily we still managed to get a seat even there was no reservation. They have quite big range of menu, you can view HERE. The wet tissues are not FOC, so I usually return to the restaurant.
I ordered 2 types of crab for 5 person and it costed us $99++ for that. I understood from the staff, 1kg was charged $55++ on that day. Crab's price is not fixed, it goes with market price. 砂煲螃蟹米粉汤Claypot Crab Bee Hoon Soup - we choose female crab for this as we felt with its eggs, it will made the soup more favourable. It tasted quite good but I feel it could be better. This was a huge portion and with all the dishes that we ordered, we cannot finish this. What a waste!
金沙蟹Shimmering Sand Crab Delight - this is the signature with butter and white pepper style. I personally prefer this more than the crab beehun soup, it is best to go with the fried bun. Pitty that the bun that served to us was cold and we feedback to the staff. They said due to too many people, so they prepared it earlier, that why it was cold.
干贝豆腐 Beancurd with Shredded Scallops($20++) - the beancurd was homemade, I love to try the homemade beancurd rather than the usual Japanese Toufu that you can buy in any supermarket. This is nice and best to go with the rice.
三黄苋菜Chinese Spinach with Eggs($15++) - my all time favourite dish and I usually will get this. Uncle Leong's version tasted average but is way better than most of the restaurant.
